Two women died and at least 10 people were injured in a fire early in the morning of Sunday February 18 in a retirement home in Madrid (Spain), according to emergency services. The fire, which broke out around 7 a.m. in this establishment accommodating 40 people, was extinguished by firefighters.
One of the injured was in serious condition following burns, while the others were being treated for smoke inhalation, said a Madrid emergency services official in a published video on. The other residents were evacuated by firefighters and police to a safe location, one of the firefighters added. According to the latter, the fire broke out in a room on the first floor, and the second floor was quickly “invaded by smoke”.
