The impact occurred on Chemin de la Fauvette, near the intersection of Rue Saint-Pierre Est and Route 132, around 3:45 p.m.
“According to the information received, the driver who was alone in his car did not stop when the train was announced,” indicates Frédéric Deshaies, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The freight train then hit him head-on. At this intersection, there is no safety barrier to prevent the passage of motorists when a train approaches, but only a “STOP” sign.
Transported to a hospital center, the 28-year-old young man from Val-Brillant succumbed to his injuries shortly after the collision.

Canadian National (CN) police officers and SQ investigators went to the site to analyze the scene and better understand what could have led to the impact.
“For the moment, the investigation tends to demonstrate that blinding by the sun could have been a contributing factor to the collision,” underlines Mr. Deshaies.
