(Vancouver) Meghan Agosta, three-time Olympic gold medalist, has announced her retirement from the Canadian women’s hockey team.
The 37-year-old forward from Ruthven, Ontario, ranks sixth all-time in goals (85) and points (176) and seventh in assists (91) in 178 career games with national training.
Agosta played for the Canadian teams that won Olympic gold in 2006, 2010 and 2014 and a silver medal in 2018. She was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player in 2010 after leading Canada in goals in Vancouver with nine goals and five assists in five games.
Agosta has also competed in eight world championships and won gold medals in 2007 and 2012.
She became a Vancouver police officer after the 2014 Olympics and combined that career with hockey.
She last played for Canada in the 2019-20 Rivalry Series against the United States.
“Now that the time has come to bow out, I can’t help but think back on my journey. The journey of a child who dreamed of wearing the maple leaf on the world stage,” said Agosta, in a Hockey Canada press release.
“I remember the moment I put on the jersey for the first time, my participation in the Women’s World Cup and the Olympic Games. No doubt, my dream came true.
“Looking back, and as I begin this new chapter in my life with the added bonus of a little girl eager to follow in my footsteps, I feel great pride. I cherish every moment of my career, and I am extremely grateful to my family, my teammates, my coaches. If I have been able to get this far, it is thanks to their unwavering support, which has nourished every stride, every goal and every victory over time. »
She and Vancouver police officer Jason Robillard have two children together, Chance and Rylan.
