United Kingdom: a country plagued by knife attacks
United Kingdom: a country plagued by knife attacks – (France 2)
In the United Kingdom, knife attacks have increased by more than 70% in ten years. The victims but also the perpetrators are younger and younger. A new law should ban “zombie” knives used in these attacks next September.
A knife attack takes place every 11 minutes in the UK. In ten years, their number has increased by more than 70%. The weapons used are machetes or even serrated knives, called “zombie knives”. They are sold online or on the street, in plain sight. This is one of the knives of which Abdoul Lelo, member of the “One with the village” association, was the victim. He was stabbed in the leg at age 17 while trying to help a friend involved in trafficking.
250 deaths in the last eight months
Over the past eight months, nearly 250 people have lost their lives in knife attacks. The victims, like the perpetrators, are increasingly younger. Part of the reason the number of knives in circulation is so high is because it is very difficult to acquire a firearm in the UK. So far, the British government has failed to stem this violence. Next September, a new law should ban all “zombie” type knives.
