(Indian Wells) Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki and American Venus Williams have received invitations to the women’s main draw of the Indian Wells tournament, which will take place next month.
This tournament, which brings together the best players from the ATP and WTA, will take place from March 6 to 17 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Wozniacki is back in the California desert for the first time since 2019, after taking a three-year break to give birth to her two children. She won the Indian Wells tournament in 2011, and was finalist in 2010 and 2013.
The Dane made her return to the WTA circuit at the National Bank Open last August, and she reached the fourth round of the US Open in 2023. She also lost in the second round of the US Open. Australia last month, a tournament she won in 2018.
For her part, Williams was affected by a knee injury she suffered in the first round of the Wimbledon tournament last July. She also lost in the first round of the US Open in September, and has not played a match on the WTA circuit since that time.
The 43-year-old will return to Indian Wells for the first time since 2019, when she reached the quarter-finals.
The other invitations will be revealed over the coming weeks.
