The surge in positive Covid-19 cases worries the government and the World Health Organization. They could cause the saturation of resuscitation services, as well as too frequent inter-regional transfers.
Faced with the rise in Covid-19 cases, several hospital departments are unable to accommodate all patients in intensive care. Several plane transfers have already had to take place, including that of two patients in their sixties initially hospitalized in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes), which were transported to Lille (North). “There were a lot of stretchers, we went from the ambulance to the plane to get back into an ambulance (…) You still have to have some experience to be able to do it in good safety conditions.“, testifies one of the doctors in charge of the transfer.
If the Lille hospital is under tension, there are still empty beds in intensive care. The northern hospital center has chosen to show solidarity with those in the south of France. “At April, we were overwhelmed (…) we needed Brittany, New Aquitaine, to transfer patients. This time, the PACA region needs us, so we are playing this solidarity“, says an emergency doctor from Lille.
