Anny Duperey was well aware of this when she wanted to give her opinion on the complaint filed by Judith Godrèche
against Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon : “I’m going to get hit.”. But despite this, the 75-year-old actress followed through with her thoughts, and made comments on RTL this Saturday February 10, 2024 which quickly caused a media tidal wave. The septuagenarian, in her remarks, made a series of errors, initially declaring “not having the profile” for being a victim of sexual abusebefore then lending a “consent” to Judith Godrèche, on the grounds that the latter had maintained a relationship with the filmmaker 26 years her senior for more than six years. She also attacked “the witch hunt” which aimed to destroy the work of great filmmakers, defending in passing Roman Polanski
considering that the facts with which he was accused were to be minimized, because they were dated “fifty or sixty years”.
Anny Duperey’s shocking comments this Sunday, February 11, 2024, caused strong indignation on social networks, but also in showbiz. Alexandra Lamy did not hesitate to bang her fist on the table by publicly attacking her eldest, with whom she has never acted either on television or in the cinema: “Thank you Madame Duperey, on behalf of all the victims, of all those who have the courage to speak, to ask them to be quiet because it’s been a long time“ enraged Chloé Jouannet’s mother, who also wanted to remind her colleague that “the witches” that she strove to defend were above all “rapists” and “predators”.
“I am the godmother of an association for children”
Faced with the controversy, Anny Duperey decided to speak out to justify her comments. This Sunday evening, the actress, who worked with Gérard Depardieu in Freinds and with Jacques Doillon in Against oblivionwanted to clarify the “clumsiness” of his words… but did not want to apologize to the victims that she possibly injured: “Faced with the numerous reactions on social networks about my intervention on the subject of Judith Godrèche’s complaint, and other complaints appearing recently, I would like to affirm that, obviously, I CONDEMN any action of RAPE or abuse of seductive power – whether it takes place against adults and ESPECIALLY CHILDREN or ADOLESCENTS. It’s not for nothing that I have been a sponsor of an association for the defense of children for over thirty years!”
“I signed for the release of Jacqueline Sauvage”
And to conclude, arguing that his speech had the sole objective of simply nuance “media hype” provoked by the speeches of Judith Godrèche, Anna Mouglalis and Muriel Cousin: “Just as I have always ardently defended the cause of women, personally and by participating in a number of demonstrations in favor of this cause – for which there is still so much to do. It is not by chance that I was one of the first signatories for the release of Jacqueline Sauvage. What I wanted, very clumsily, I agree, because it is beneficial for the victims to finally express themselves, after such a long silence, is to temper the media hype.”
