Italy: the French take off their masks at the Venice Carnival
Italy: the French take off their masks at the Venice Carnival – (FRANCEINFO)
Every year in Italy, the Venice Carnival attracts many tourists who come to immerse themselves in the historic atmosphere of the festival. Among them, many French people get caught up in the game of masks and costumes.
Daylight has not yet risen in Venice (Italy). As the famous Carnival has begun, some visitors get up at dawn. This is the case of two French tourists, who take part every year, and dress themselves in masks and dreamlike outfits. When the sun comes out, they head to St. Mark’s Square and have their photos taken. “I allow myself to approach people more easily when I wear the mask.” confides one of them.
The French provide entertainment
During the ten days of carnival, it is the French who mainly provide the entertainment. A resident of Hauts-de-France was awarded the prize for the most beautiful costume last year. The French presence can surely be explained by the taste for fashion, according to a costume manufacturer. Some French nationals have even chosen to settle there.
