The President of Senegal, Macky Sall, in office since 2012, has postponed the next presidential election. In response, violent clashes broke out in the country, causing the deaths of three young people. Jean-Claude Félix-Tchicaya, researcher at the Institute for Prospective and Security in Europe (IPSE) affirms that the head of state is deploying a very contradictory argument. “There were refusals of applications“, he recalls, including that of the Franco-Senegalese Karim Wade. However, the country’s Constitution does not allow a person holding dual nationality to stand for election, underlines the specialist.
