All sweat addicts who have a personal trainer at Énergie Cardio in Boucherville can breathe easy. They will be reimbursed despite the sudden closure of their gym and the bankruptcy of the chain.

Twenty-five thousand dollars are lying around in the coffers of the Consumer Protection Office (OPC) just for them. All packages are included – whether you choose massages or not.
This is so since Énergie Cardio holds a health studio permit and must pay $25,000 per gym as a deposit. With 663 permit holders for 776 establishments, the OPC manages $19.4 million.
Customers of the gyms closed by Énergie Cardio on Wednesday – that of Place Versailles, in Montreal, and that of Boucherville – have six months to complete the reimbursement form on the OPC website.
“Generally, there is something for everyone,” says Charles Tanguay, of the OPC. The law does not require the bankrupt company to disclose what it owes and to whom.
Énergie Cardio’s bankruptcy is the 10the the kind to be treated by the OPC since 2022. The fitness sector in Quebec has been hit one right after another in the face since COVID.
The sinking boat should serve as a warning, warns the OPC. “We shop for a gym, we make sure it has a valid permit. Otherwise, no reimbursement,” summarizes Charles Tanguay.
