A Montreal man who allegedly threatened to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was arrested last week.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) specified in a press release on Wednesday that Paul Clarissou, who is 30 years old, allegedly issued death threats against the head of the government of Canada on social networks using his account X, formerly Twitter.
The RCMP reports that the arrest was the result of a short investigation by the Integrated National Security Team following the report of threatening comments made by Mr. Clarissou.
The suspect is due to appear in court this Wednesday at the Montreal courthouse, where he will be charged with uttering threats under the Criminal Code.
The RCMP says it takes all threats that could affect the feeling of security seriously and that no violent comments are tolerated. She invites the population to denounce such acts.
