In Kenya, the sect led by Pastor Paul Mackenzie has left more than 400 dead. The guru had asked his disciples to starve themselves to death.
In Kenya, in the Shakahola forest, lived the members of an evangelical sect, most of whom starved to death. Since May 2023, more than 400 bodies have been found by the authorities. The search continues, as 600 people are still missing. Victor Kaudo, human rights defender, was among the first to denounce the dangerous practices of the sect. This was led by Paul Mackenzie, a pastor who manipulated his followers.
No support for victims
A former member of the sect returns to the scene of the tragedy. The guru had promised them a return to the land and a life of prayer. Quickly, he demands that his disciples starve to death. After two days without water or food, a mother fled. She left when she was told to stop breastfeeding her child. Survivors of the sect struggle to reintegrate into society. Victims receive no support.
