Burning manure and more than a thousand tractors in the streets of the European district of Brussels, a stone’s throw from an EU summit. The angry movement of farmers reached the Belgian capital on Thursday February 1st. Several thousand demonstrators, from many European countries, called on the European Union to change its policy on agricultural issues.

On Wednesday, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, made the first gestures towards the movement, concerning the importation of Ukrainian products and a rule on fallow land.

Insufficient announcements in the eyes of those gathered on Thursday, who hoped to have an impact on the occasion of a summit of the leaders of the Twenty-Seven, supposed to focus on aid to Ukraine, but on the menu of which agricultural questions stood out.
