For a seventh time since the start of the year, a strike disrupts the day at Regina Assumpta College, a private school in Montreal.
The students were supposed to have an outing today (a sliding activity).
However, the management of the establishment wrote to parents this morning, telling them to deplore “the irresponsible decision of the teachers’ union to launch another surprise strike period at 7:47 a.m., without notice. For everyone’s safety, the planned slide exit is canceled.”
“We are unable to send the necessary staff to the sliding sites. »
Students who had to go sliding returned home independently, while students transported by (non-public) bus remain under supervision at school.
Six days have been disrupted by strikes since the start of the school year.
On the union side, the Regina Assumpta College Teachers’ Union, affiliated with the CSN, indicated to The Press that “while the negotiations seemed well advanced during a conversation with management on Monday, and a truce in pressure tactics was considered, management did not respond to union demands, which caused a change in last minute in the initially planned strike date.
Salaries are not in question, since as in the majority of private colleges, the scales are aligned with what is offered in the public sector.
For the union, the guidelines to be placed around the use of technology are at the heart of the conflict.
