“The end of an era”. Pokimane, the most followed streamer on the streaming platform Twitch with 9.3 million subscribers, announced that she was leaving the live streaming site on Tuesday January 30.

“It’s time to say thank you”declared the 27-year-old young woman in a publication on her X (ex-Twitter) and Instagram accounts, without giving any indication of what she intends to do from now on. Real name Imane Anys, Pokimane is one of the stars of the Amazon streaming platform, which has regularly featured her and on which she has been broadcasting her video game games for over ten years like League of Legends Or Fortnite.

Pokimane’s departure is a new blow for Twitch, which announced in early January that it would have to lay off 500 people, as part of vast job cuts carried out by Amazon. “What an incredible journey”nevertheless reacted the platform onadding that she would have “always a place” at their home.

In recent years, many streaming stars have deserted Amazon’s platform in favor of its competitors like Google’s YouTube Live, or the latest Kick. The latter, which appeared in 2022, promises creators more freedom and better distribution of income, but is the subject of numerous controversies concerning its moderation.

More generally, many creators have also announced in recent months that they are ending their online careers. This is particularly the case of the American Matthew Patrick (18.9 million subscribers on YouTube) and the British Tom Scott (6.4 million subscribers on YouTube), highlighting a certain weariness and a risk of burnout.
