England’s Tyrrell Hatton confirmed on Tuesday that he will join the LIV Tour, meaning another golfer on the top 20 world will leave the PGA Tour to instead fill the ranks of the team led by the reigning champion of the Masters Tournament, Jon Rahm.
Hatton had been in the sights of the LIV Tour since the Saudi-funded league managed to convince Rahm to make the jump towards the end of 2023. The Spaniard and Hatton were teammates in the last two Ryder Cup duels.
THE Daily Telegraph reported that Hatton got a signing bonus of 84.5 million.
The LIV circuit will begin its third season of existence this week in Mayakoba, on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico. Hatton will be part of Rahm’s team, which is called Legion XIII.
Zimbabwean Kieran Vincent and Caleb Surratt, who played golf at the University of Tennessee and competed in last year’s Walker Cup at St. Andrews, will also be on Rahm’s team.
Hatton was scheduled to compete in the AT&T Pro-Am tournament at Pebble Beach this week, and he had recently confirmed his appearance at the Phoenix Open.
The LIV Tour now has 13 teams, after fielding 12 of four golfers each during its first two seasons. Each 54-hole tournament awards a purse of 4 million to the winner, and a points system is used to decide the team championship.
