A much awaited moment. Gabriel Attal delivers his general policy declaration, Tuesday January 30, at 3 p.m., at the National Assembly. The Prime Minister presents his roadmap and his priorities to the deputies. A balancing act at a time when farmers are blocking the roads around Paris. This speech, which all heads of government deliver even if they are not obliged to, comes three weeks, to the day, after his appointment to Matignon. The former Minister of National Education must address several subjects: authority, the sovereign domain, public services, health and even housing. Follow our live stream.
The left has tabled a motion of censure against the government of Gabriel Attal. The motion of censure will be debated following the Prime Minister’s general policy declaration.
No vote of confidence. Asking deputies to vote for confidence after a declaration of general policy, in accordance with article 49-1 of the Constitution, is not obligatory. Elisabeth Borne, Gabriel Attal’s predecessor, did without it. Deprived like her of an absolute majority, Gabriel Attal will not submit to the votes of the deputies at the end of his intervention either.
Circumspect oppositions. “We are preparing for a program of general suffering”for example quipped Manuel Bompard, the coordinator of La France insoumise (LFI), after meeting Gabriel Attal. “The only thing he told us was that he was there to make Borne faster, more powerful”also deplored Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the Socialist Party.
Several motions of censure? Laurent Jacobelli, spokesperson for the National Rally, declared on franceinfo that he was “considerable” that the far-right party submits its “own motion of censure”.
