A strike by professors at the University of Montreal was narrowly avoided, an agreement in principle having been reached at the negotiating table.
The executive committee of the General Union of Professors of the University of Montreal (SGPPUM) announced last week that a strike would be called this Monday, in the absence of an agreement.
The agreement in principle must be quickly submitted to the union authorities. The main points in dispute were salaries and workload.
The SGPPUM has nearly 1,400 members.
If the strike had broken out, there would have been a suspension of teaching, research and contribution to the functioning of the institution. A large march of union members was to take place this Monday at 11:30 a.m., from Parc Jean-Brillant to in front of the university tower and the hall of honor.
The collective agreement for professors at the University of Montreal ended on May 31, 2022.
