The suspect who allegedly stabbed a 52-year-old man to death Friday in Estrie appeared this Saturday afternoon.

Steeve Gilbert faces charges of assault while carrying a weapon.
However, the charges against the suspect concern another victim, a woman who is also believed to be involved in the case.
The man who was killed is Mr. Gilbert’s father-in-law.
The accused, who is considered a dangerous criminal, had barely left the penitentiary where he had been locked up since 2021 when the tragic events took place on the night of Thursday to Friday.
Upon his release, the 44-year-old man went to his partner’s home on Gillespie Street in Sherbrooke.
The deceased was allegedly involved in an altercation with the suspect around five a.m., when he showed up at his daughter-in-law’s residence following a call from the latter.
The investigation into the homicide is still continuing, according to information from the Sûreté du Québec.
Steeve Gilbert is currently in custody and will be back in court on Tuesday, January 30.
