It’s a chilling testimony. Guest of C l’hebdo on France 5 to promote his book The last nightpublished by Grasset, TF1 journalist Thomas Misraschi reveals that he has already planned his death. Only 52 years old, the man, who turns out to be in great shape, refuses the idea of growing old and finding himself dependent on others. Thomas Misraschi took this carefully considered decision following the death of a close friend at the age of 77. It is moreover to the latter that he devotes his entire novel, which gives pride of place to death with dignity, and, de factohas the legalization of euthanasia and/or assisted suicide in Franceunder conditions.
“I don’t want nursing homes, memory lapses, old age and people who cheat on me, I don’t want all that. I want to live as dignified as possible, for as long as possible. I know 75 is early. I hope I’ll be healthy at that age, but I don’t want to face what comes after that. Maybe it’s a lack of courage, maybe that’s what you want… but my biggest problem is my little girl, I’ll have to explain all this to her when she’s an adult, and when I’ll be able to talk to her about all that.” explains the one who works as a reporter at TF1.
Her friend committed suicide so as not to become impotent
Near La Tribune Sunday a few days ago, Thomas Misraschi revealed “(want) to die in twenty-three years”. The man has already planned everything, and intends to end his life at the age of 75, if he were to become bedridden and a burden for those close to him. His friend, Jacqueline Jencquel, to whom he dedicates his novel, is not unknown to the general public. A few years ago, his interview with Konbini went viral on the Internet. Activist for the Association for the Right to Die with Dignity (ADMD), the septuagenarian announced that she was going to commit suicideso as not to be a burden on his family: “Even if we put you in a luxury nursing home, we will change you, we will give you baths, we will do yoga sessions, it will always be infantilizing. We entertain you as if you were a kid, it’s very depressing”.
Unable to resort to assisted suicide in France, or euthanasia, Jacqueline Jencquel ended her life at her home at the age of 78, on March 29, 2022. She had postponed her suicide for a few months, to be able to take advantage of her last grandson, born at the very moment she had planned her first death. His moving testimony on his choice of a free and enlightened death, baptized Finish in stylewas published by Éditions Favre in 2020.
