A 27-year-old man was shot and killed in a taxi in Montreal on the night of Friday to Saturday in the borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension.
The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) received calls concerning a person injured by gunfire in the Parc-Extension district on Saint-Roch Street at Querbes Avenue, around midnight on Saturday.
The victim, a man whose identity cannot be confirmed at this time, was found in a taxi. The man was hit by at least one firearm projectile in the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was not known to police and had no criminal record.
According to initial information from the Montreal police, one or more suspects shot the man in the vehicle and then fled before the police arrived.
No suspect has been arrested yet, reported SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.
The taxi driver was not hit by the projectiles, but suffered nervous shock for which he was treated on the spot.
Avenue Querbes was closed between rue Jarry and avenue Jean-Talon, and a security perimeter was established around the scene to allow forensic identification technicians as well as investigators from the major crimes section to accomplish their work.
This would be the “third murder to occur on SPVM territory in 2024,” said the SPVM spokesperson.
