Four months after her defeat in the US Open final, Aryna Sabalenka took her revenge. The world number 2 won against Coco Gauff in the first semi-final of the women’s draw at the Australian Open (7-6(2), 6-4), Thursday January 25. Once again very solid, the Belarusian, who has still not dropped a single set in the tournament, will defend her crown in the final, she who was crowned in Melbourne a year ago.
After a strong start, Aryna Sabalenka suffered a scare in the first set. While she was leading 5-2 and seemed to have things in hand, she saw her opponent come back and push her to her first tie-break of the tournament. A tie-break that she flew over (7-2), without panicking, before breaking at the right time in the second set to win the game. Defeated, Coco Gauff misses the opportunity to grab a few places in the WTA rankings, and misses out on the third Major final of her career.
