southern Gaza engulfed in clashes after deadly shooting at UN shelter

Southern Gaza under tension. The town of Khan Younes remains, Thursday, January 25, the epicenter of clashes between the Israeli army and Palestinian Hamas the day after deadly and strongly condemned shootings against a UN refuge sheltering people displaced by the war. Follow our live stream.

A refuge attacked by Israel. Tank fire against a building of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in Khan Younes had already caused at least Wednesday “nine dead and 75 injured”announced Thomas White, head of the organization in Gaza, where medical and UN sources fear that the toll will rise. Philippe Lazzarini, head of Unrwa, said the reception center was “clearly” identified and his contact details had been “shared with Israeli authorities”. He lashed out “a flagrant violation of the fundamental rules of war.”

Children injured in Gaza treated in Europe. In Europe, Rome and Paris announced respectively that one hundred Palestinian children injured in Gaza would be treated in Italian hospitals and that seven injured children had arrived in France for treatment.

Khan Younes surrounded. The Israeli army announced that it had “surrounded” Khan Younes and called on the local population to leave for Rafah, further south. But the fighting makes transport to this city dangerous, where the majority of the 1.7 million Palestinians already displaced by the war are concentrated.
