The members of a fourth union affiliated with the Autonomous Teaching Federation (FAE) narrowly accepted the agreement in principle reached during the holiday season with the government of Quebec concerning the renewal of collective agreements.
During a general meeting held Tuesday evening, members of the Western Montreal Education Union (SEOM) approved the agreement in principle by 51%, the union announced on its page Facebook.
SEOM did not provide any other information, including the number of members who attended the meeting and voted. It represents a total of approximately 7,200 teachers at the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Service Center.
Teachers from western Montreal therefore followed in the footsteps of their colleagues from Outaouais, who had accepted the agreement in principle concluded by the FAE at 57% Monday evening.
Last week, it was adopted by the Alliance of Teachers of Montreal, by 52%, and by the Syndicat de l’enseignement de la Pointe-de-l’Île, still in Montreal, by 58.5%. .
Only one union has so far refused the agreement, the Laval Region Education Union, which rejected it by 68%.
Five of the nine unions affiliated with the FAE and a majority of the 66,500 members must ratify the agreement in principle for it to be accepted.
Wednesday evening, it will be the turn of the members of the Basses-Laurentides Education Union to vote on the agreement in principle. The Quebec Region Education Union will then hold its own meeting Thursday evening.
