Germany is hit by a new railway workers’ strike. Barely a week after a six-day strike, German railway workerss will resume their protest movement from the morning of Wednesday January 24 for six more days. Deutsche Bahn sees red. “The GDL union is embarking on a conflict which will make the country suffer and prefers to toughen up the movement”, says Richard Lutz, CEO of Deutsche Bahn. They demand a reduction in working hours and salary increases.

Minimum service for Croatian justice

Empty courtrooms and backlogs of cases. Croatian judicial personnel have gone into hibernation. Prohibited from striking, they only deal with urgent matters. It is their way of protesting against a government which, after an initial movement of discontent, has signed wage agreements but is not implementing them. Croatian justice demands a salary scaleres enshrined in law and a better separation of powers.

Estonian teachers begin indefinite strike. They are demanding a better salary, of around 1,950 euros gross per month. However, the government does not plan to increase taxes.
