Covid self-tests will now be available in supermarkets. This temporary sales authorization should make it possible to relieve congestion in pharmacies, some of which are out of stock.

Self-tests on your supermarket shelves. To fight against the fifth wave, they can be sold in supermarkets for a month, until January 31. The first should be available in the coming days, an announcement rather well received: “At the same time as we do our shopping we buy our self-test, it’s very good.” The measure was expected by the bosses of supermarkets. Several brands are happy to say that they will sell these tests at cost price.

The announcement is difficult to accept, however, in pharmacies, which highlight their role in supporting patients. “When a person comes to buy a self-test from us, we ask them if they have already used one and if they want information”, explains Yorick Berger, general secretary of the Paris pharmacies union. Pharmacists were campaigning to maintain a monopoly on the sale of these self-tests, which they said should not be sold as an ordinary product. Before the holidays, between 80,000 and 120,000 self-tests were sold daily in pharmacies.
