(Melbourne) Russian Anna Kalinskaya (75e) was invited for the first time to the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam at the Australian Open at the expense of the Italian Jasmine Paolini (31e) 6-4, 6-2 Monday.
Kalinskaya had never gone beyond the second round at a Grand Slam before the Australian fortnight.
The 25-year-old Russian will face either the Chinese Qinwen Zheng, world No.15, or the French Océane Dodin (95e), opposed later Monday.
In the same half of the table, the other two qualified for the quarter-finals, the Czech Linda Noskova (50e) and Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska (93e), are also newcomers.
