In a complaint dated Wednesday and consulted by AFP on Friday, two American fans of Madonna, Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden, accuse the singer of “casualness” for his chronic lateness to his concerts. The action, launched before civil justice in New York, also targets the concert giant Live Nation and the Brooklyn stadium Barclays Center. The plaintiffs are seeking financial compensation for two-hour delays to shows given by the singer in December 2023.

Madonna, 65, resumed her “Celebration Tour” in the fall in Europe and then North America after being hospitalized in intensive care for a bacterial infection in June 2023. “The three nights of concerts at the Barclays Center were supposed to start at 8:30 p.m. but Madonna did not arrive on stage until 10:30 p.m. and the spectators left the room after 1:00 a.m.,” denounce the two complainants.

“Madonna demonstrated a difficulty and a certain casualness in being on time or completing her shows (…) with the consequence of waiting hours for the concerts to start (…) and being stuck in the middle of the night” to return home, they also deplore in their complaint.

“A long history of delays to his concerts”

According to this 18-page court document filed with the federal prosecutor’s office in the New York jurisdiction of Brooklyn, “Madonna has a long history of being late to her concerts, sometimes by several hours.” None of the parties targeted by the complaint responded to AFP’s requests.

Madonna, real name Louise Ciccone, was born in August 1958 in Michigan to parents of Italian and French-speaking Canadian origins. After starting out as a dancer, songwriter and singer in the late 1970s in New York, with $35 in her pocket, she won seven Grammy Awards including 14 studio albums as well as live records, film soundtracks and compilations. .. Her career as a producer, actress and film director has made her for 40 years one of the most influential and wealthy artists and businesswomen on the planet.
