The blizzard blows across the plains of New York State, in the United States, Friday January 19. At the same time, a thick layer of snow has been accumulating for more than a week. The cold wave affecting the Midwest continues to rage, causing the deaths of 50 people across the country. Throughout the Midwest, and in almost the entire eastern part of the country, temperatures remain negative on Saturday, as far as Texas.
Income impacted
“If you work in a field that requires you to be outside, such as construction, mining or agriculture, it is much more difficult. So this has an impact on household income and productivity”, explains Tammy Carleton, environmental economist. Everywhere, the cold and snow make travel difficult, and schools are forced to close. Weather services are forecasting a mild spell next week.
