(Montreal) Two children aged 3 and 11 respectively were found safe after the theft of their father’s vehicle while they were inside, in the Montreal-North borough, Thursday evening.
The spokesperson for the Montreal City Police Department, Jean-Pierre Brabant, said the father left the car running with his children in the back seat while he went to the bank.
The thief then jumped into the man’s car and began driving, apparently without realizing there were children inside, Brabant said.
The father called 911, police canvassed the neighborhood and eventually found the children, who had been dropped off on a nearby street.
Mr. Brabant says the children were freed from the vehicle within a few minutes and remained unharmed, but the stolen vehicle was not found.
Police have questioned the children and are reviewing security camera footage in the area to track down the suspect.
