“The sum of loved ones”, Alexandre Poulin

Sixth album, casually. Fifteen years of craftsmanship without showing too much outside the workshop. Even now, this blurry photo behind the title of the album pretends to be there without being completely there. As if to say: don’t look for me, it’s all in the songs. Indeed. The death of the father weighs its true weight in Lovedosefinds the words of unspeakable pain in Saying goodbye. The break with the friend is measured in Arms like a house. This “sum” concerns as much the love of yesteryear (Pretty Françoise) that love in broad daylight (The sky where I land). He has imagined loves, here a lonely one (Happy Days), there an impossible couple (vacant heart). Without going into detail about the question, the quest for the truth of feelings is never in vain, we touch on it. The generally guitar-voice-soft keyboards manner does not prevent moments of instrumental intensity, but Alexandre Poulin imposes nothing, sings without acting like a singer. It’s up to us to go to him.
