(Montreal) The prolific and distinguished Quebec composer François Dompierre will be honored on February 16, in the evening, by the Montreal Conservatory of Music (CMM), where he studied from 1959 to 1964.
This tribute will be paid to the Maison symphonique de Montréal on the occasion of the 80e anniversary of the Conservatory.
The Symphony Orchestra of the Montreal Conservatory of Music, conducted by Jean-Marie Zeitouni, will perform that evening Musimage, by François Dompierre, as well as the works Nocturne by Claude Debussy, in revised version, the Piano Concerto no. 1, op. 15 by Jacques Hétu with pianist Emmanuel Laforest from the class of Richard Raymond, as well as Roméo et Juliette, Suite no 2, op. 64 by Sergei Prokofiev.
The Montreal Conservatory of Music presents François Dompierre as one of the most important composers in Quebec. He recalls that his broad range includes variety music, advertising music, musical comedies and concert music.
He is also known for his film scores, having collaborated on around sixty works with a multitude of Quebec directors.
François Dompierre is also the author of a series of musical books intended for learning music in Quebec schools.
The Conservatory notes that François Dompierre recently composed a Requiem which will be given its world premiere by the Orchester Philharmonique et Chœur des Mélomanes (OPCM) at the Maison symphonique de Montréal on June 8, as well as at the Palais Montcalm in Québec on the following day.
François Dompierre is a knight of the Order of the Pléiade, a knight of the National Order of Quebec and a member of the Order of Canada.
