On March 23, 2018, been a dark day in Carcassonne (Aude) and Trèbes (Aude). He was a little over 9am when Radouane Lakdim, an S offender, shot two men in a car. The driver was seriously injured in the head, and the 60-year-old passenger was the first to die that day. Aboard his victims’ car, the jihadist then crossed Carcassonne, and fired at CRS who were jogging. A police officer was seriously injured. HAS 10:39 a.m.the terrorist broke into a supermarket in Trebes. He killed an employee and a customer, before taking a checkout hostess hostage.

A network of logistical and ideological support

Arnaud Beltrame, one of the first gendarmes to intervene, offered the terrorist to take the place of the hostage. He initiated a negotiation which ended short. Before being shot down by the GIGN, Radouane Lakdim stabbed the policeman to death. It was 2:30 p.m.. The investigation did not identify accomplices, but a network of logistical and ideological support, according to the judges: seven people in total, including the assassin’s ex-girlfriend. According to the defense, they knew nothing about the terrorist project. Five of the accused will answer for criminal association in connection with a terrorist enterprise. The trial, which opens Monday January 22 before the special assize court of Paris, is expected to last more than a month.
