Host and singer Serge Laprade died following a recurrence of cancer, his advertising agency confirmed Thursday. He had just turned 83.
Mr. Laprade’s health had deteriorated recently. He was admitted to palliative care earlier this week.
Born January 13, 1941, Mr. Laprade began his career in the early 1960s, working in the information department of radio station CJMS, while participating in competitions for young singers. He recorded a few songs and quickly became a personality in the Quebec entertainment world.
A little later, he became a radio and television presenter. Some remember the show “Le travail à la Chaîne” that he hosted from 1972 to 1979 on Radio-Canada, strongly supported by Jacques Houde in the role of “big moneyman”.
At CKAC, Mr. Laprade hosted a morning show for a long time, interspersed with his “Tender Moments” column.
A few months ago, Mr. Laprade married his companion of the last 50 years, Daniel Arsenault.
Further details will follow.
