Extreme cold is getting milder across the majority of the country, observes Environment Canada

The Arctic grip that has gripped much of western Canada is easing everywhere except northern Alberta, while a Pacific low pressure system brings snow to much of the British Columbia.

Environment Canada has lifted most extreme cold warnings across the Prairies, but says the long period of extremely cold temperatures will continue in northern Alberta, with wind chill values ​​near -40C.

The weather agency also issued snowfall warnings for most of the lower two-thirds of British Columbia, with 15 to 20 centimeters of snow forecast for Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria.

The City of Vancouver is warning residents to avoid all non-essential travel as a storm hits Tuesday evening, and could ease by Wednesday evening.

Toronto Pearson Airport released a statement on social media saying that weather systems across Canada could impact flights to and from the city, and that some airlines have canceled flights to Europe, especially Germany, due to weather systems.
