At least one woman was killed and 17 other people injured, including two seriously, on Monday January 15, in a suspected car attack in Ra’anana, a suburb of Tel Aviv, according to Israeli police and emergency services. Two young French people “are among the wounded”, announced the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs on Monday. Two Palestinian suspects, aged 25 and 44, from the occupied West Bank, were arrested after stealing a car and knocking down passers-by, according to the Jewish state’s police chief. The UN demands access to an Israeli port. Three United Nations agencies have asked Israel to allow access to its port of Ashdod to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, where Palestinians suffer significant food insecurity. Access to this port located approximately 40 km north of the Gaza Strip “would allow much larger amounts of aid to be delivered and then trucked directly to the northern areas of Gaza”.
A ship hit off the coast of Yemen. The British Maritime Safety Agency announced that a ship had been hit by a missile off the coast of Yemen, the day after a cruise missile was fired by Yemeni Houthi rebels towards a US destroyer. The American army claimed to have shot down the device fired from an area of Yemen controlled by the Houthis, supporters of Hamas.
New deadly bombings in Gaza. Hamas deplored the death of more than 60 people during the night from Sunday to Monday, in Israeli bombings “intense” on the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian movement’s Ministry of Health has reported 24,100 people killed in the Gaza Strip, the majority women, adolescents and children, since the start of the war between the Israeli army and the Palestinian Islamist movement.
Israeli footballer arrested in Türkiye. An Israeli footballer was arrested in Turkey as part of an investigation for “public incitement to hatred” after posting a message referring to the conflict between Israel and Hamas during an Antalya match in the Turkish first division championship. He was kicked out of his team.
