In Grindavik (Iceland), the lava continues its inexorable course. A wall of molten lava advances and destroys roads and homes. Homeowner Is Resigned After His House Burns: “It’s a bit surreal to see your family home disappear. I barely realize what’s happening.” Since the alerts in November, the town of 4,000 inhabitants has been almost empty. Since the eruption started, two faults have opened. Five eruptions in three years
In Iceland, eruptions are frequent: five in the last three years. But houses have not been affected for 51 years. “Today is a dark day for Grindavik and for Iceland. But the sun will rise again. Together we will face this trauma”, promised Katrin Jakobsdottir, the Icelandic Prime Minister. A man died on Wednesday January 10 when he fell into a crevasse.
