According to an American study, thousands of plastic nanoparticles are contained in water bottles.
On average, a liter of bottled water contains 240,000 tiny plastic particles, according to the revelations of an American study, published Wednesday January 10. However, consumers are not worried. Thanks to innovative laser-based technology, American scientists were able to count these plastic nanoparticles which are a million times smaller than a millimeter. They found that they were 100 times more numerous than previously estimated.
Particles that can spread throughout the body
These particles could come from filters used during traffic jams or from the bottles themselves. “The risks associated with these nanoplasticsit’s their small size (…) they can more easily cross the intestinal barrier, they can spread throughout the body”, explains Muriel Mercier-Bonin, research director at INRAE. The authors of the study advise limiting the consumption of bottled water.
