Tuesday in the NHL | Jon Cooper gets his 500th victory in a victory against the Kings

Nick Perbix scored 2:02 into overtime and the Tampa Bay Lightning erased a two-goal deficit in the third period to defeat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 on Tuesday.

Jon Cooper became the third-fastest head coach to reach 500 wins in the National Hockey League (NHL). Scotty Bowman (825) and Bruce Boudreau (837) were faster than Cooper, who needed 839 games.

Cooper, however, was the quickest to do so with a single team. It’s the 29th^e head coach in history to win 500 games.

Perbix ended a drought of 40 games without scoring. Tyler Motte and Brandon Hagel were the other scorers for the Lightning, then Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 20 pucks in the victory.

Former Montreal Canadiens Phillip Danault lit the red light for the Kings, who lost a sixth consecutive game. Matt Roy also threaded the needle and Cam Talbot made 26 saves.

A hat trick for Matthew Tkachuk in a Panthers win

Matthew Tkachuk scored his fifth career regular season hat trick to help the Florida Panthers defeat the St. Louis Blues 5-1 on Tuesday.

Tkachuk scored the last three goals for the Panthers, who have won their last eight games. His last goal, in an empty cage with 57 seconds remaining, put the finishing touch.

Sam Reinhart and Kevin Stenlund also threaded the needle for the Panthers. Anthony Stolarz made 29 saves.

Brayden Schenn lit the red light and Joel Hofer stopped 26 pucks for the Blues, who had won their previous two games.

Reinhart scored his 29^e goal of the campaign, a high for the Florida team. He thus gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead, who never looked back.

Schenn opened the scoring 3:24 into the first. He ended a streak of 16 games without a goal.

Jets shut out Blue Jackets 5-0

Cole Perfetti scored twice and Connor Hellebuyck made 29 saves to help the Winnipeg Jets beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-0 on Tuesday to tie the team mark with a seventh straight victory.

Perfetti also had an assist.

Brenden Dillon, Josh Morrissey and Gabriel Vilardi were the other scorers for the Jets, who remain atop the overall National Hockey League standings. The Manitoba club collected at least one point in a 13^e game in a row, which also constitutes an organization record.

Hellebuyck signed his second shutout of the campaign and his 34^e in career. He is 11-0-2 in his last 13 games, the best undefeated streak in regulation time in club history for a goalie.

Daniil Tarasov stopped 18 pucks for the Blue Jackets, who saw their two-game point streak end.

Mark Scheifele reached 400 career assists for the Jets, who have allowed three goals or fewer in a 30^e match in a row.

The Jets have not lost in regulation in 14 games against Eastern teams this season (11-0-3).

Maple Leafs dominate Sharks 7-1

Mitch Marner scored two goals and two assists in the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 7-1 domination of the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.

It was a fourth straight victory for the Maple Leafs.

Morgan Rielly, Auston Matthews, Pontus Holmberg, Jake McCabe and Nick Robertson also scored in the victory.

Martin Jones blocked 22 shots and William Nylander had three assists. McCabe had two assists in addition to his goal.

Henry Thrun scored the only goal for the Sharks, who have lost 12 straight games. It was a first goal in the National Hockey League for the 22-year-old American defenseman, who took part in a 24^e match.

Kaapo Kahkonen gave up four goals on 20 shots, while Mackenzie Blackwood blocked 22 of the next 25 shots.

Rielly opened the scoring at 3:12 of play in the first period. Matthews quickly doubled the Maple Leafs’ lead 34 seconds later on the power play.

Marner complicated things for the Sharks by scoring 54 seconds into the second period.

Thrun scored the Sharks’ goal 7:21 into the second period, on the power play.

The Kraken signs a seventh consecutive victory

Alex Wennberg, Jaden Schwartz and Matty Beniers scored in the third period and the Seattle Kraken took control of the game to defeat the Buffalo Sabers 5-2 on Tuesday.

Yanni Gourde and Vince Dunn also scored for the Kraken, who won a seventh straight game. Joey Daccord made 36 pucks.

Jeff Skinner and Alex Tuch responded for the Sabres. Quebecer Devon Levi stopped 21 pucks.

Skinner opened the scoring at 4:57 of the first period when he was left alone at the right circle. His shot beat Daccord between the pads.

Gourde tied the game with 6:05 left in the first, then Dunn gave the Washington State club the lead with 70 seconds left in the period.

Tuch was the first scorer in the second, but the Kraken then scored three unanswered goals taking advantage of Sabres’ mistakes.

Schwartz was returning to action after missing 16 games with an upper body injury.

The Flames score four times in the third period and beat the Senators

Yegor Sharangovich and Blake Coleman each scored two goals and the Calgary Flames beat the Ottawa Senators 6-3 on Tuesday night.

The Flames scored four goals in the third period to take the victory.

Noah Hanifin had a good night of work with a goal and two assists. Connor Zary also found the back of the net. With his two assists, Nazem Kadri reached the plateau of 600 career points in the NHL.

Jacob Bernard-Docker, Dominik Kubalik and Brady Tkachuk scored for the Senators, who have lost nine of their last 10 road games.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 30 pucks for the Flames. For his part, Joonas Korpisalo made 30 saves for his team.

The Flames trailed 3-2 to start the third period, but tied the game just 47 seconds into the game thanks to Hanifin’s net.

Coleman then gave his team the lead at 8:57 of play.

Sharangovich scored his second goal of the game at 15:45 and Coleman completed the scoring into an empty net, scoring his 17^e goal of the season, a high for the Flames.

The Senators scored the first goal of the game when Bernard-Docker shot from the point and the return shot deflected off defenseman Yaz Kuznetsov and ended up in the back of the net.

Canucks beat Islanders 5-2

Filip Hronek and Quinn Hughes scored in the first period, Casey DeSmith stopped 18 shots and the Vancouver Canucks beat the New York Islanders 5-2 on Tuesday.

Elias Pettersson, Tyler Myers and Dakota Joshua also found the back of the net for the Canucks, who have won four of their last five games. Conor Garland had two assists.

Brock Nelson scored both Islanders goals. He scored on the power play at 11:11 in the second period, before scoring again in the third period. The striker leads his team with 19 goals.

Hronek opened the scoring with his third goal of the campaign, 16:25 into the first period.

Hughes made it 2-0. He beat Ilya Sorokin to get his 51 at the same time^e point of the campaign.

Pettersson gave the Canucks a three-goal lead with his 20^e net of the season, on a passing play with JT Miller.

Myers made it 4-1. Joshua finished it off with an empty net.

The Ducks end their five-game losing streak

Troy Terry had a goal and an assist, Lukas Dostal made 39 saves and the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Nashville Predators 5-3 on Tuesday.

Ryan Strome, Frank Vatrano, Mason McTavish and Radko Gudas also found the back of the net for the Ducks, who ended a five-game losing streak. Alex Killorn and Jackson LaCombe had two assists each.

Alexandre Carrier, Philip Tomasino and Denis Gurianov responded for the Predators, who suffered a second defeat in three games. Juuse Saros blocked 28 shots.

The Ducks struck three times in the first half. Strome scored the first goal of the game taking advantage of a breakaway just eight seconds after serving a penalty for tripping, 11:12 into the duel.

Vatrano doubled the Ducks’ lead less than three minutes later, then McTavish made it 3-0 before the end of the period.

Carrier shattered Dostal’s hopes at 9:45 of the third period with the Predators’ first goal. The goalie was looking for his first career shutout.

Ducks forward Trevor Zegras left the game after falling into the boards early in the game. The Ducks announced a lower body injury. He had already missed 20 games earlier this season with a lower body injury.

Oilers defeat Blackhawks 2-1

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl scored for the Edmonton Oilers, who won their eighth straight game by beating the Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 on Tuesday night.

McDavid scored the winning goal by beating Petr Mrazek on a breakaway 1:32 into the second period.

McDavid has scored at least one point in his last eight games. He has 14 points during this sequence.

Jason Dickinson scored for the Blackhawks, beating Stuart Skinner on the shield side at 5:52 to open the scoring in the first period. Dickinson leads his team with 14 goals.

Skinner stopped 25 shots in his team’s victory.

The Blackhawks’ lead lasted just over two minutes. Draisaitl scored his 19^e campaign net at 8:05 of play to tie the game 1-1.

Mrazek stopped 13 pucks.
