An American consecration for the 45-year-old French director, rewarded in Hollywood with awards for best screenplay and best foreign language film for her fourth feature film, which recounts the trial of a writer accused of the murder of her husband and dissects the collapse of their relationship.

The work has been accumulating awards since the last Cannes Film Festival which propelled it onto the international scene. Justine Triet stood out with a vitriolic speech against the “dominant power, more and more uninhibited” of the head of state and his government.

The winner of the Palme d’Or had accused the executive of having “shockingly denied” the protest against the pension reform in winter 2023, but also to want “break the cultural exception without which (it) would not be here today”. After these remarks, which had “stunned” the Minister of Culture Rima Abdul-Malak, Emmanuel Macron had not sent a message of congratulations to the director.
