One of these journalists was the son of Waël al-Dahdouh, Al-Jazeera bureau chief in the Gaza Strip. The latter had already lost his wife and two children in another Israeli strike.

An Israeli strike killed two Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip, the Hamas Ministry of Health said on Sunday (January 7). Moustafa Thuraya, a freelance videographer working with AFP, and Hamza Waël al-Dahdouh, a journalist for the Al-Jazeera channel, were killed while driving, according to the ministry and rescuers.

Waël al-Dahdouh, father of Hamza al-Dahdouh, is Al-Jazeera’s bureau chief in the Gaza Strip. Recently injured in an Israeli strike, he had already lost his wife and two children in another Israeli strike during the first weeks of the war.
Moustafa Thuraya has collaborated with AFP since 2019. As of December 31, at least 77 journalists and media professionals had been killed since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists . Seventy were Palestinian, four Israeli and three Lebanese.
