report accuses Donald Trump of violating the Constitution by pocketing $7.8 million from abroad when he was president

Democratic parliamentarians denounce in a report the enrichment of the ex-president, while he was in office, thanks to payments made to the Trump Organization from abroad. A new accusation against the billionaire, who is currently campaigning for the Republican nomination.

Rents and bills totaling $7.8 million. This is the jackpot that would have increased Donald Trump’s assets while he occupied the Oval Office. He would have benefited from millions of dollars from abroad, according to a report by Democratic parliamentarians unveiled Thursday January 4, money paid by some of the “the most disgusting diets on the planet”they write.

Their report, called “White house for sale”, accuses the ex-president of having let the family business, the Trump Organization, benefit from the money of around twenty foreign regimes and their leaders, in violation of the Constitution. According to Democrats, two-thirds of this sum was paid by China, and in particular its public bank, ICBC, which rented offices in Trump Tower in New York. Next come Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. A total of 20 countries are listed by the democratic representatives, including India, Turkey, Qatar and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Payments that would be contrary to the Constitution

Problem: the Constitution prohibits him from receiving “foreign emoluments”, gifts or money from other governments, without the approval of Congress. Especially since these payments, the report insists, were paid while “these governments were promoting their own objectives”sometimes with Donald Trump himself.

This is one more case for the ex-president, almost anecdotal in view of the numerous trials which await him in this election year. Indicted four times in criminal proceedings, he and his sons are also appearing in civilian clothes, currently in New York, for financial fraud by the Trump Organization. Not to mention the thorny issues of Colorado and Maine, which both declared him ineligible in 2024, due to the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
