His decision as the Olympic Games approach may seem surprising, even incomprehensible, but it is irrevocable: swimmer Florent Manaudou informed his fans and teammates that he had made the decision not to go to Tenerife (Canary Islands) to train for ten days, alongside the other tricolor swimmers. If he agreed to be with them in South Africa, for an internship which took place during the end-of-year holidays, Laure Manaudou’s little brother decided not to deviate from a rule that he established itself a few years ago, despite the Paris 2024 Olympics: go and enjoy your friends in Australiawhile focusing on himself, training alone, without his coach or teammates.
At the end of the week, Florent Manaudou will fly to Brisbane for at least six weeks, where an internship and his friends await him. The triple Olympic medalist, specialist in the 50m freestyle, who is seeking a fourth medal in four consecutive Olympic Games, is used to training all year round in Antibes; but for the start of the year, the thirty-year-old has decided to listen only to him: “Even if I am on the Côte d’Azur in January, when it’s 5 degrees, we say to ourselves : Well, I’ll do it tomorrow, the weather isn’t very nice. I remember the weather when we went to Bond University last year, it was still nice to work in those conditions.” justifies the athlete.
“I hope I suck.”
If he decides to go to Australia to meet his friends, Florent Manaudou nevertheless intends to take advantage of the southern seas to condition himself as best as possible, and to work on the 2024 Olympics for which he is eagerly awaited by the French: “I’m going there to work hard. I hope I suck at training at first, which means that I work well, and come back to France and have a very solid training base. I want to be tired. And above all, I’m going to have my weekends where I’m not going to do anything. I won’t necessarily have any temptations, I’ll be in the sun, I’m going there to work hard” assured the fiancé of Danish swimmer Pernille Blume.
