Brest airport canceled the 14 air connections planned for Sunday December 31, reports France Bleu Breizh Izel, after the control tower was hit by lightning on the night of Saturday December 30 to Sunday December 31 due to storm Géraldine , despite the protections provided against this type of weather risk.

The lightning strike damaged equipment and the intervention, managed by the air navigation service – independent of the airport operating company – will not be able to take place before Tuesday January 2. Which suggests that no flights will be able to take place from or to Brest airport before this date.

Flights likely canceled until Tuesday

In any case, Claude Arphexad, the airport operator, confirmed to franceinfo that all flights, fourteen in total (seven on departure, seven on arrival), are canceled this Sunday, December 31. Claude Arphexad still hopes to see the comings and goings of planes again before Tuesday, because they are “nearly 1,000 travelers affected” this Sunday, and “nearly 1,000 travelers affected” Monday.

The control tower at Brest airport had already been struck by lightning on October 29, just before storm Ciaran, also damaging some of the equipment and also canceling all flights for the day.
