War in Ukraine: Russian bombings on the city of Kharkiv – (France 2)
The Russian army bombed the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv during the night of Saturday December 30 to Sunday December 31, in retaliation for the attack which killed 24 civilians a few hours earlier in Belgorod, on Russian soil. Moscow accused kyiv at a UN Security Council meeting of “committing a deliberate act of terrorism.”
It is 1 a.m. on Sunday, December 31 in Kharkiv, the largest city in eastern Ukraine. Russia has just launched several kamikaze drones and missiles into the city center. Apartment buildings are affected. In the rubble, rescuers set out to search for civilians, surprised in the night. “JI was sitting in front of the TV, and bang. Around me everything passed“, confided one of them.
Moscow’s response
A hotel well known to journalists and humanitarians was also targeted. Ukraine currently reports around twenty injuries in total. Moscow claimed responsibility for the strikes on the morning of Sunday December 31, claiming to have targeted military targets. The Ministry of Defense evokes a response to the attack on the town of Belgorod the day before, the deadliest on civilians in Russia, with 24 dead.
