(Sunrise) The Montreal Canadiens and the Florida Panthers were still locked in a 0-0 deadlock after one period of play Saturday night at Amerant Bank Arena.
Joel Armia had the Habs’ best scoring opportunity, but he deflected a delivery from Brendan Gallagher over the net.
Moments earlier at the other end of the ice, Jake Allen had frustrated Nick Cousins, who escaped.
Allen stopped four shots in the first 20 minutes of play. For the Panthers, Anthony Stolarz made five saves.
The Canadiens have lost their last five games against the Panthers by a combined score of 32-12. He has also suffered defeat in his last seven visits to Sunrise, where he has not won since December 28, 2018.
Canadian defender Mike Matheson competes in a 500e career game in the NHL. He was drafted in the first round by the Panthers in 2012 and played his first 299 games in the Bettman circuit with that team.
The Canadian will be back in action on Sunday evening, when he visits the Tampa Bay Lightning.
