(Gatineau) A septuagenarian who has reoffended several times by driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested by the Gatineau Police Department (SPVG) on Thursday, due to a national driving ban.
The Gatineau resident is on his eighth repeat of driving while banned since 1998.
The 77-year-old man was arrested at the wheel of a vehicle Thursday around 10:30 a.m. while he was in the parking lot of a business on Chemin de Masson. The vehicle he was in did not have a license plate.
At the time of his arrest, the latter did not show signs of intoxication, according to the SPVG. However, after an investigation by the police, they found that the man did not have the right to drive a motor vehicle and that there were more than twenty previous convictions relating to impaired driving.
The man is charged with driving while disqualified and is expected to appear in court at a later date. He will remain detained until his appearance for a release hearing.
The man also received tickets for traffic violations relating to driving rights and registration. Furthermore, the vehicle involved had been seized for a period of 30 days.
