Former journalist and boxing presenter Jean-Paul Chartrand Sr. has died, according to what the Sports Network reports, where he worked for many years.
Chartrand died on Saturday at the age of 92.
He had a long career in the media starting in the late 1950s and spent the last few decades as a host on RDS, notably presenting more than 1,600 boxing galas, the channel mentions in the biography it published on its website.
Chartrand started in the media world at CJMS radio, then made the jump to CKAC.
He also worked on writing at Montreal JournalAt Montreal-Morning and at Sunday morning during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, notably covering the activities of the Alouettes and the Canadiens.
Chartrand also worked on Radio-Canada television during the presentation of NFL football matches.
He was hired by RDS when the station opened in 1989, where he covered boxing and football, but also participated in the production of hunting and fishing programs.
He is the father of sports journalist Jean-Paul Chartrand fils.
Chartrand had recently been admitted to the Panthéon des sports du Québec as a builder.
In 2022, a documentary was dedicated to him.
