On April 27, 1848, France abolished slavery in all French territories, but the promulgation of this decree, carried by Victor Schœlcher, and its implementation, arrived in Reunion on December 20, 1848, the date on which each year, we celebrate this festival of freedom.

Wednesday December 20 was the 175the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Reunion. Like every year, many festivities and tributes were organized across the four corners of the Indian Ocean island. Two inmates found dead in Mayotte prison
