The toll is growing day by day. Incessant bombings and ground operations by the Israeli army have led to the deaths of 200 Palestinians in the last 24 hours in the Gaza Strip, Hamas announced on Saturday, December 23. For its part, the IDF said five of its soldiers have been killed since Friday while fighting in the Palestinian territory. Here is what to remember from this new day of conflict.
More than 200 dead in Israeli operations in Gaza in 24 hours, says Hamas
More than 200 Palestinians have been killed in the past 24 hours, Hamas said. Nearly three months after the start of the war, the Islamist movement announced the discovery of the bodies of dozens of killed Palestinians, some of whom “executed” according to him, during an Israeli ground operation in Jabaliya in the northern Gaza Strip.
Hamas health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidreh this week accused them of “committed several atrocious massacres leading to the death of dozens of people in the camp and town of Jabaliya, and in the area of Tal Al-Zaatar”. “The occupying forces executed dozens of citizens in the streets,” he added.
Asked by AFP, the army did not specifically respond to the accusations of executions but assured that its strikes “against military targets are consistent with the provisions of international law”. AFPTV images show a body under rubble in the streets of Jabaliya as well as massive destruction.
The Israeli army announces the death of five soldiers in Gaza since Friday
The IDF announced early Saturday evening that five of its soldiers have been killed since Friday while fighting in the Gaza Strip. Four soldiers died on Friday in the south of the Palestinian territory, and a fifth on Saturday in the north, the Israeli army said in a press release.
These deaths bring to 144 the number of Israeli soldiers killed since the start of the ground offensive decided by the Jewish state in the Gaza Strip on October 27.
Senior Hamas official eliminated
This is Hassan al-Atrash, who was in charge of armaments within the Islamist movement, according to an IDF press release. The airstrike was carried out jointly with Israeli domestic intelligence. Hamas has not yet confirmed this information.
